Kinja'd!!!

Looked outside this morning, and our “new” neighbors across the street already have their house up for sale. They’ve only been there a few months.

I was like, “WAIT! I haven’t even started my car yet!”

Talk about jumping the gun. Here’s hoping to firing that beast up this coming week. Open longtubes and all its big cam/high compression glory.

could easily be a flip. did they buy it as a ‘distressed’ property? (forclosed, repo) or are the prices in your area on the trend up?

Neither. Might be relocating for work or something.

Good quality home, all new stuff. Probably ditching before property plummets because the oil business has taken a massive hit. We’re in Lubbock and saw our property stuff go up because everything in Midland-Odessa was full and people were trying to get stuff here.

The O&G downturn continues to rear its ugly head, I bet. I work specifically in loss prediction at a bank with lots of Energy lending in TX and the midwest basins. It’s not pretty anywhere in the industry right now (except Midstream/pipelines...they’re all holding on).

Yeah, I had thought about going into it years ago. I work as a pharmacy tech in the ICU’s and OR, so the day we had one guy come in from the oil field with over 90% burns and another guy with the back of his head caved in from an attachment rotating around and hitting him, I was like “Nope.”

Since when was there an original gangsta downturn?

Maybe I’m weird, but a house is a house, right? A roof over your head, four walls, etc. A dropping price shouldn’t matter if it suites your needs, right? Or am I just crazy?

How’s the LNG industry looking?

Multiple companies in Texas are seeking to build (or already are, as is the case in Freeport and Corpus Christi), export terminals for the stuff.

So far, I’m of the opinion that, like all fossil fuel-based industries, it will be very “boom or bust,” but it would be interesting to hear from an insider who deals with these kinds of valuations for real.

I wish I could call myself an insider — thankfully I dodge most of the transactional-based stuff and deal with portfolios as a whole. We don’t do any LNG...but I wish we did. I’m not sure how they’re doing financially, but it looks really promising.

Would you like to buy a house for 200k dollars on a 20 year mortgage, and then in 15 years decide to move and NOT get the money back you paid into it because it’s all of a sudden not worth as much as you paid 15 years ago? That can (and did when the economy collapsed in 2008) happen in some areas of the country.

It’ll suck, yes, but I guess I’m just grateful to have a house? Like really grateful. I was jobless for too long, and had to repeatedly ask my parents to pay my bills and give me gas money while I desperately searched for a job and student loans around the corner. I guess my pride as a father and husband got really damaged during those 6 months, not even being able to put food on the table and forced to live with my in-laws.

To me, being able to live in a house, that I pay for, is an accomplishment I’m proud of. Not to mention three [homemade, not frozen] meals a day, and a mostly working car. I know my story is most likely unique, and its little when compared to what others have, but its what I have and I’m proud of it.

Like I said, I’m weird.

Do you have more than three cars on your property that need wheels?

How many major appliances are on your porch?

Do you have any blue tarps on your roof?

Do you have any yard art made out of car or truck tires?

How many cars are you parting out at the present time?

Are you running a recycling operation on your property?

Have you let your yard go “natural” because you love mother nature?

Do you know the exact number of pets you currently have? Is that number greater than 7?

How many garage sales do you have a month?

Just checking. Could be a factor in having short term neighbors.

Do you have more than three cars on your property that need wheels?

Only the Firebird, but they’re in boxes waiting for tires since they don’t clear the CTS-V brakes.

How many major appliances are on your porch?

Zero

Do you have any blue tarps on your roof?

Thought this was trap. Then wondered why you knew about the tranny that suffocated on my roof?

Do you have any yard art made out of car or truck tires?

Zero

How many cars are you parting out at the present time?

Zero, though my office is currently full of performance parts that I took off the bird from the previous build.

Are you running a recycling operation on your property?

Nope.

Have you let your yard go “natural” because you love mother nature?

Nah, though it did get scorched two years ago during our drought. Made a great comeback this year though.

Do you know the exact number of pets you currently have? Is that number greater than 7?

Zero, would even make it a negative if I could get rid of the dove and squirrels.

How many garage sales do you have a month?

Zero, I like to keep my garage.

Just checking. Could be a factor in having short term neighbors.

Everybody else has been here for as long or longer than we’ve lived here, just thought it was funny.

It can be a betting game overall. there is a thing called equity. If the business in the area drops considerably there’s not really just the oss in value of the house there’s loss of the job possibly comming and if that’s the case, take the equity and run to a rental until a better job elsewhere comes up or weather the storm if they cant do that.

Problem I have is the equity is going crazy up but so is anything else I’d like to get into. So the value means nothing overall if I can’t do anything with it. But again, if it was the other way, I’d be looking to explore options.
